Dan Ashwood's video, Repeat Viewings, begins:
For most, the death of scarcity and involuntary mortality is a welcome development. For some, however, nostalgia and the allure of the material universe prove too strong.I won't ruin it for you. It's only 12 minutes long, and it's an example of what Nick Bostrom calls "The Simulation Menace." It's also surprisingly poignant.
They are doomed to relive their pasts. This is the story of one such case.

A deadpan droll review of the Ford Fiesta, and yet screamingly hilarious. It's ten minutes long, but it really gets going at about the five minute mark:

I love working in advertising
Aug. 31st, 2009 01:06 pm No really. I've always loved working in advertising. That's where the money is, where the art is, and where the real passion for pushing some of the web's strangest boundaries are to be found.
I'm currently bootstrapping with a small team, and the incubator is at an ad agency I can't mention for a variety of reasons. But I enjoy being here because it lets me do what I'm good at, and I get to work around a bunch of nifty people, some of whom are stressed to the max, the others of which are clever and creative as hell. Someone even bothered to nifty-up the signs on the trashcans.
But being here does remind me about one of my favorite videos of all time: When I grow up, I wanna work in advertising:
So true, all of it! Especially the part about being a web designer.

This is just wrong!

Under the heading of Awesome, we have GXP, aka "Victims of Science," and one of the first three songs he's ever released, The Device Has Been Modified, a breakbeat masterpiece tribute to Portal. The only shame is that there's no more, and I want an entire album of stuff like this to fill my iPod.
TheCybercat on YouTube has given us a wonderful, if seizure-inducing, video to go along with it
Portal GlaDOS fans enjoy!

Everyone and his brother has been passing around this video of the Multiple Kill Vehicle missile defense system. As I watched it, my reaction was, "I know I've seen this before."
According to the news, there was a preliminary test firing in August of 2007, but I could swear that there was a similar demonstration of a caged, robotic attitude control rocket platform sometime earlier this decade. Am I hallucinating, or what?

Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Dec. 4th, 2008 08:13 pmJWZ labeled this one under "Perversions." It's more than that. It's just wrong. And it's probably NSFW, too.

I have no idea where this came from. I, like most people who've seen it, think it's a mash-up of pro-science and rapper 'tudes, but there's a small subset that wants to believe it's a pro-Expelled movie. Either way, it had me giggling. And I could name everyone in it! You have to be deep into the whole evo-creo debate, but if you are, this is a scream:
The bit with Genie Scott, though, was... um... Well, let's just say I don't try to think of Genie that way.
Just sayin'.

I have trouble believing this.
Jan. 5th, 2007 08:21 pmY'know, I love listening to people complain about how bad the American educational system is. Because when I watch something like this video (on Google Video), I'm reassured that we're not the only country where idiots walk among us.
For those of you unfamiliar with it, it's the French version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!" and the question is, "Which of these orbits the Earth?"
By the way, as in the English and American versions, the host takes a survey of the audience. The results will alarm? annoy? surprise? you.

A Kernel of Truth
Feb. 28th, 2006 12:47 pmRichard Scoble, who apparently is some marketing bigwig within Microsoft, claims that this video (Macromedia Flash), entitled "What if Microsoft designed the packaging for the iPod?" was done by Microsoft internally.
It's still bitingly true. Omaha must see this.

Music Video: The Internet is for Porn
Jan. 10th, 2006 07:31 amSomeone must have posted this before me. It's flash: deal with it. The video is work-safe, but the audio absolutely requires headphones: The Internet is for Porn!
Today's video geek tip.
Jun. 20th, 2005 08:21 pmOne of the problems I've had in recent years with non-anime video is that the audio and video are frequently out of sync. As the tools have improved, this has been less of a problem, but there is one cache of video out there (still accessible despite all the ill-will of Congress) that has always confounded me: the MST3K Digital Archive. Frequently, the audio would get so out of sync as to be several seconds ahead or behind the video, which is both annoying and disconcerting.
So, the solution: force the video and audio into sync by duplicating or dropping video frames as needed to guarantee a one-to-one mark of audio and video. Transcode and MkDVD don't do this, but MEncoder does, so before you pass the video to MkDVD, run it through MEncoder, thusly:
Viola'. You'll be ready to burn the results to your DVD.
