Everyone and his brother has been passing around this video of the Multiple Kill Vehicle missile defense system. As I watched it, my reaction was, "I know I've seen this before."

According to the news, there was a preliminary test firing in August of 2007, but I could swear that there was a similar demonstration of a caged, robotic attitude control rocket platform sometime earlier this decade. Am I hallucinating, or what?

You're not hallucinating; I remember seeing it, too. Sadly, I can't remember what it was called.

I dimly remember seeing it some time in the 1990's, and the gadget I saw was far more agile than the video of recent interest. I also remember seeing a wireframe 3D animation illustrating how it would work, rendered on an Amiga in Videoscape 3D. Maybe Allen Hastings knows more...

Their quad-rocket platform they were working with for a'while moved fairly similairly to that, I thought. Hell, their gymbaled-single-rocket platform they've more-or-less settled on moves similairly for that matter.

Sure. Brilliant Pebbles.

Same thing, in fact, just a new name and a deployabe design.
