... I may have permanently injured myself.

On Saturday, if it's not clear enough, I went out with a beloved friend and had a very, very wild time. At one point, between serious bouts, I was sitting on the floor getting a very nice backrub when a sudden, sharp pain struck me right under the ribcabe on the left side. A broad band of muscle became solidly rigid and it hurt, a lot.

The pain subsided quickly, and soon it felt like it was gone. Just a muscle spasm. Except that ever since then, I've had bad heartburn and an acid feeling in my throat.

I'm hoping it's just a temporary weakening of the esophogeal sphincter caused by muscle strain. My biggest fear is that it's a hiatal hernia, which is a permanent and dietetically disabling condition. I let it go for a few days, but today it's just very bad-- the muscle that seized up that night again aches badly and the burning in my throat is now constant, low-level pain.

Anyway, I've done the right thing and called my doctor. I have an appointment on Friday and in the meantime and using one of those all-day acid inhibitors. Damn, this sucks.

And if that wasn't bad enough, the "service engine soon" light just came on in the car.

Check Engine

Get it looked at, but don't panic. Usually it's something with the emission control system (maybe even your gas cap isn't clicked on tightly enough).

Last time the just reset the light and told me to come back if it came on again. It hasn't. (It originally come on a coupla days after an inspection when they had to jump-start my car - this resets some temporary memory like the trip odometers.)

My car seemed to run better after they reset the lamp; maybe the computer goes to some default settings? Placebo effect?
