... I may have permanently injured myself.

On Saturday, if it's not clear enough, I went out with a beloved friend and had a very, very wild time. At one point, between serious bouts, I was sitting on the floor getting a very nice backrub when a sudden, sharp pain struck me right under the ribcabe on the left side. A broad band of muscle became solidly rigid and it hurt, a lot.

The pain subsided quickly, and soon it felt like it was gone. Just a muscle spasm. Except that ever since then, I've had bad heartburn and an acid feeling in my throat.

I'm hoping it's just a temporary weakening of the esophogeal sphincter caused by muscle strain. My biggest fear is that it's a hiatal hernia, which is a permanent and dietetically disabling condition. I let it go for a few days, but today it's just very bad-- the muscle that seized up that night again aches badly and the burning in my throat is now constant, low-level pain.

Anyway, I've done the right thing and called my doctor. I have an appointment on Friday and in the meantime and using one of those all-day acid inhibitors. Damn, this sucks.

And if that wasn't bad enough, the "service engine soon" light just came on in the car.

Oh no! I hope that you find that everything is temporary and treatable.

I realize this is tacky, but...

If your friend going to make a T-Shirt that says "I Broke Elf with Sex"?

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Yeah, me too. I want the acidic pain in my throat to leave.

I hope it is a temporary condition. That sucks.

Maybe it was the backrub and she hit a sensitive nerve? That happens sometimes to me.

Damn! You just can't catch a break, can you?

I hope that things turn out to be nothing.

Ugh, really hope it doesn't turn out to be that possibility and it ends up being something temporary and fixable. ^_^ *HUGS*

Meanwhile acidopholus (tables, yogurt, milk...) can help reduce the acid also. And I second the fact that hiatal hernia stuff is lots easier to treat these days (or even live with if you have to, which I doubt). Doctors can be lovely people.

Hope it gets better soon!

I have a hiatal hernia, and it's definitely not dietically limiting. The only thing that limits my spicy diet is cooking for the family - can't make it too spicy for the kids.

ooops

Sorry to hear you may have broken yourself-otoh- my gastroenterologist scared me half to death- and it turned out that my esophagus is 'ticklish' with symptoms that had my doctor, her partners, 4 fireman, three paramedics and the ambulance driver convinced that I was having a heart attack. Hope you turn out to be similarly unafflicted.

Get it looked at, but don't panic. Usually it's something with the emission control system (maybe even your gas cap isn't clicked on tightly enough).

Last time the just reset the light and told me to come back if it came on again. It hasn't. (It originally come on a coupla days after an inspection when they had to jump-start my car - this resets some temporary memory like the trip odometers.)

My car seemed to run better after they reset the lamp; maybe the computer goes to some default settings? Placebo effect?
