The Reverend Gary Aldredge, a friend of the late Jerry Falwell's, died in Alabama two days ago under curious circumstances. The state of Alabama has ruled his death "accidental by mechanical asphyxiation."

Aldridge served as the church's pastor for 16 years. Immediately following his death, church officials issued a press release asking community members to "please refrain from speculation" about what led to Aldridge's demise, adding that, "we will begin the healing process under the strong arm of our Savior, Jesus Christ."Wait, aren't dildos illegal in Alabama? Didn't he have to cross state lines to get it?The deceased was clothed in a diving wet suit, a face mask which has a single vent for breathing, a rubberized head mask having an opening for the mouth and eyes, a second rubberized suit with suspenders, rubberized male underwear, hands and feet have diving gloves and slippers. There were numerous straps and cords restraining the decedent. There was a leather belt around the midriff. There was a series of ligatures extending from the hands to the feet. The hands were bound behind the back. The feet were tied to the hands. There were nylon ligatures holding these in place with leather straps about the wrists and ankles. There were plastic cords also tied about the hands and feet with a single plastic cord extending up to the head and surrounding the lower neck. There was a dildo in the anus covered with a condom.
Clothing: The deceased was received wearing two (2) wetsuits, one scuba diving mask, one pair of diving gloves, one pair of slippers, one pair of rubber underwear, two (2) ties, five (5) belts, eleven (11) straps.
Personal effects: One yellow metal ring intact on left finger, one dildo.

And I find it a touch difficult to believe that he did this all on his own.
You bet his church is worried about speculation.

Date: 2007-10-10 06:05 pm (UTC)Sounds like he was probably in something similar to a standard hogtie, which some people can do on themselves, but 1)not without a good bit of practice and 2)very likely not while wearing diving gloves.

A wetsuit, on the other hand, let your skin get wet, it just kept the same water near your skin so that when your body heated it up it stayed warm.

Date: 2007-10-10 03:42 pm (UTC)When you consider how many teenage lives have been wrecked by his hypocrisy and prejudice, from gay teenagers estranged from their families and committing suicide to straight teenagers forced to birth babies they are not ready for and did not want . . .
I wonder how fundamentalist ministers sleep at night. If I were one of them, I would lie awake in bed at night, terrified that God is just and I might get what I deserve.

Date: 2007-10-11 12:39 am (UTC)Not for very long. After I've been condemned for various reasons right off the bat, the least disruptive action I can take is to escape quickly. I *have* had individuals come up to me and ask in all honest curiosity how I can consider myself an atheist and still a moral person, and I welcome that discussion wholeheartedly.
I would say, though, that when we're discussing public announcement of expected values, public condemnations, and systematic attempts to influence public policy, that a given acquaintance being both fundamentalist and a good person isn't really relevant anymore.

(not my thing, but I've read a lot of the tutorials on places like Grommet's Plaza)

And I'm not giggling....well not loud enough to scare people here at work at least.
