elfsI had another one of those "I'm getting old" moments. I was hanging out on my favorite anime forum when someone asked, "Hey, is the cover art to the Hidamari Sketch soundtrack a Beetles [sic] reference?"
Geez, what are they teaching kids these days? Not only is it a riff on Abbey Road, but Miyako is barefoot just like Paul. (I notice that another important piece of the cover, that the characters were all in step except for Paul, is not reproduced, perhaps in an attempt to keep down any rumors that they're planning on killing off Miyako.) There's both a Volkswagon Beetle and a ranty old man in the background.
I am reminded of the time back in 1988 as I was driving my university roommate's ditzy girlfriend back to campus. A song came on the radio and she asked, "Hey, is that the new Whitesnake single?"
The song was Stairway to Heaven.
Last night, Colbert was commenting on the UK's decision to no longer use the phrase "Global War on Terror," preferring instead such terms as "Ongoing military operations," and indicating that the UK would be using more "diplomatic options" and "soft power" in the future. Colbert scoffed, "Soft power? Soft power is what you do with a consenting adult until he or she uses a safeword!"
It's rare I literally roll on the floor laughing but I had been sitting on the floor already.

Date: 2007-04-26 04:25 pm (UTC)Um... the two shows are really pretty different in theme... and to my mind, Stephen Colbert on the Daily Show was a rather different character than Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report. I mean, sure, Colbert does exactly that dancing around thing, but has had that going on since day 1 of his own show, so I don't see how that's really a new thing. (For anyone not aware, he does that crowd-hogging dance on the way across the set to guest interviews. The gag is that he's grabbing the applause the audience is giving the guest for himself, and is playing on the egomania of people like Bill O'Reilly.)
