I should send this into the Stranger (or is it the Seattle Weekly) to have them go over this for real:

Dear Uptight Seattlite:

Every month I go up to Capitol Hill to get myself the roasted coffee that I prefer. There are only two places I have found that sell my favored brand: one is a local organic co-op staffed with hippies struggling to survive against the onslaught of Whole Foods and Safeway. the other is a local coffeeshop staffed by goths struggling to survive against the likes of Starbucks.

Which one of these deserves my money more?

I love the question and you should absolutely send it in.

Go with the hippies. They do less damage to the environment.

Supporting the hippie organic co-op means supporting sustainable local agriculture. Supporting the goth coffee shop means supporting bad techno bands.

(Oh, my, I think I'm showing a bit of an attitude here.)

Yeah, go with the hippies. Some might be preachy, but at least you know that they are willing to walk-the-walk as well as talk-the-talk.

On the other hand some of the cafe-goths really do mean well too, but a much larger percentage of them are just doing it because it's cool and if you looked you'd still find daddy's platinum card in their pocket.

If you're grocery shopping, go with the hippies. If you're having a day out and want to have a refreshing beverage, go with the goths.

I vote hippies. But you could always alternate between the two.

The totally pragmatic answer is go for whichever is more convenient, has a better price, and offers better eye-candy. As long as you chose one or the other, some real person will benefit. Ideally, it would be nice if both can survive so that there will always be a choice.

(I tend to prefer hippies overall, but I agree with you on the lip piercing. For me, those things distract in an unpleasant way.)

I say it doesn't really matter as both are good choices. But you should ask Uptight Seattlite anyway (since it's an illuminating question) and post the answer.

Since no one answered your other question, it's Seattle Weekly. My guess is ASU will tell you to order it online, and support our cyber-economy.

Go to Madison Market and say hello to my beautiful partner, who works there.
