I made minestrone for the kids tonight, the real kind, with the pasta cooked separately and added last to prevent mushiness, with pancetta and chicken broth. I even cubed bread and melted cheese on top for Kouryou-chan, and the kids still didn't like it. Grr. They eat well enough, but sometimes I wish they'd appreciate all the effort.

Yamaraashi-chan is writing cute skiffy for a nine-year-old, and Kouryou-chan got her hands on the labeler last night and now I have a label: "daddy".

Omaha threatened to slug me if I uploaded the video I took last night of her seizure up onto YouTube.

I went to the gym today. The New Year's Resolution crowd seems to have gone now, and I busted my butt doing the arms, abs and back exercises.

I want minestrone with pancetta! Can I come over and pretend to be one of your kids?

You could! Or you could make it from the recipe. (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_31993,00.html) The only substitutions I did involved using sliced pancetta (browns nicely in hot olive oil) and cavatappi instead of tubetti. But if you're ever back in my neck of the woods, remind me and I'll whip up a batch.

What is "skiffy"?

Also, mention it would be nice if I could see what I was in for, one of these days, being married to someone with epilepsy. But I suppose I understand it if she's not ready to be the example.

Sweetie assures me I've never actually seen a seizure, so I worry.

Ha! "Skiffy" is "scifi" pronounced properly.

And remember, skiffy sticks to the roof of your mind...

Skiffy == sci-fi (pronunciation)

If you ever do upload such a thing to YouTube, please let me know. I'm teaching first responders and it would be nice to show them what an actual seizure loosk like. (The actors in the training videos . . . suck.)

Thanks again.

Seconded. I'd love to see it for professional reasons as well.

Amen. I was just lamenting this recently - my children have NO idea that they're terribly fortunate to have a good, interested, cook for a mother. They have no basis for understanding how many kids eat spagetti with ketchup-sauce or whatever.

So they complain when something isn't a favourite. I've taken to making it very clear that if I hear more complaints than thanks, I will stop making accommodations. (No meat for Stone, no potatoes for Joy, etc.) Most recently, I've come down hard on Joy not eating parts of her dinner then being hungry before bed. Her plate gets saved adn if she's hungry, that's what she eats.

I think I really noticed it because LSB is the best food groupie EVER. He does this lovely happy dance when I put something tasty in his mouth, and it just really thrills my heart. *sigh* I just have to remember that they're kids, and someday they'll drive their spouses nuts comparing them to "mother's cooking." ;-)

Seizure Video

Really, I don't have a problem with people seeing it, within a certain circle...like Woggie, for example, so that he can see what he may be in for, or Drewkitty, so that students can see what a real seizure looks like. But, as I mentioned to Elf, I just don't want it uploaded to YouTube, where 1 million people, half of whom think that conversation such as "dude, yu suxors!" is the height of sophistication, watch me drool.

No, the height of sophistication with that company is "Dude, if she does that while you're fucking her, does she get tighter?" And yes, sadly, that is a quote.

What kind of seizures to you have? Grand mal? I don't think I'd want to see myself have one. I've been lucky and not had one since 1997, but you never know... I worry about Woggie freaking out the first time. We've talked.

Dilantin/Phenytoin controls mine, but Group Health just wrote in December that they are not going to include it anymore under the prescription drug program for federal employees. That means I'll have to pay full price. Don't know how much that's going to cost. :-(

Hope you're feeling better.

Yep. Or, as my neurologist likes to say, "General Tonic Clonic" seizures, cause my seizures don't start in a particular part of my brain, but basically all over at once.

I don't think I'd want to see myself have one. I've been lucky and not had one since 1997, but you never know... I worry about Woggie freaking out the first time. We've talked.

Well, I have never seen a seizure before myself, and considering that other people are subjected to my seizures, I figure I should subject myself to my seizure at least once. Actually, this isn't the first time that he taped it, but the previous one he only got the aftermath part. This one was pretty short, and the part where I start getting up (about two minutes into the whole thing) I'm already cognizant of my surroundings...I just couldn't talk yet.

Oh, yuck. I was on Dilantin for a while years ago. Did nasty things to me (depression being the biggest part). Glad I'm not on it anymore. I take Gabitril/Tiagabine. That medication changed my brain chemistry enough that I actually have auras before my seizures now, so it's a great med for me.

I'm so sorry that they are taking it off the list...what jerks. I remember when Elf lost his job and we were without insurance for six months. I would have had to buy my meds at full price, but had the most wonderful pharmacist who took pity on me and only charged me cost. It was still over $100 per month.

Hope you're feeling better.

Thanks, I do. :)

Everytime you say "General Tonic Clonic" I think I'm hearing the name of a character from Dr. Strangelove. Either that, or I miss-hear it as "General Tonic Colonic," and then I think of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, and you just don't want to go there.
