In a Worldnut Daily article, blogger Jill Stanek thanks the "anti-life lobby" for bringing an important issue to a head: "Contraceptives... are the root cause of abortion, because they establish a mindset of hatred rather than love at the prospect of conceiving."

Nevermind how bizarre the whole suggestion is that people who want to have a certain kind of intimacy must therefore suffer with the probability of an unwanted and unloved child. Stanek wants us to "return to a time of virtuous sexual behavior," a time that as far as the real world knows (the world outside the alternative history of Christian Nationalism) never existed.

In what is perhaps the most utterly surreal case of a worldview skewing perception, Stanek writes that "the anti-life lobby is pushing the morning after pill [because] they need income from this lucrative pill to compensate for lagging abortion sales, a downward trend they expect to continue."

I swear, the aliens don't need to land. They're among us already. They're just uglier and nastier than we ever thought possible.

I sent her an email. It asked a simple question:

Are you high?

"Sweetie, I'm high on Jesus! The world looks so different when you're high on Jesus! Everyone in my church is bathed in light and I can see it! But you, you're dark and evil, and so is everyone else who is not of my chruch, and I feel a rising in my gorge and a clenching in my fists, the need to hold the Sword of the Lord..." And then she fell on the ground, writhing, slathering, and generally making more of an idiot of herself than usual.

Did I get that right?

i have the feeling that there ought to have been some more after that bit, but you got distracted. as far as the real world knows... what. Never existed, most likely. Then again "Pick your own history" is a game that's been played a lot longer than this country has been around.

Utah Phillips said "some of you might be wondering, 'just what *is* a fundamentalist?' Well... just ask yourself 'What is a fundament?' and the answer should make itself clear, you can explain that one to each other."

Yeah, I added. "Never existed" is the correct add-on. It's a crazy world, and I'm tired today (see my post about dealing with the kidlets).

If there hadn't been a desire for contraceptives, they wouldn't exist.
Except for the GREAT WRITHING CONSPIRACY OF SATAN that warped peoples' minds through marketing, subverting what HAD been an act restricted to the marriage bed (preferably through a hole in the sheet), just so his MINISTERS of EVIL could make a buck.
or something.

And she probably also thinks it's okay for men to "sow their wild oats," but any woman who so much as looks at a man a "brazen huzzy."

How many hungry has Stanek fed? How many naked has Stanek clothed? How many homeless has Stanek given shelter?

My bet is Zero.

I'm so farging fed up with these asswipes who insist that having sex not sanctioned by their cult church is worse than war.

Yup yup... I swear, they are making the Scientologists look saner by the minute, and that is something I never thought possible.

My response to the following from a Dan Savage column, was "OH MY GOD, the Christian Right is totally dominated by Space Monkey Logic" :

"In particular, and not to put too fine a point on it, they want to change the way Americans have sex," Shorto writes. "Contraception, by [their] logic," Shorto continues, "encourages sexual promiscuity, sexual deviance (like homosexuality), and a preoccupation with sex that is unhealthful even within marriage." Shorto quotes Judie Brown, president of the American Life League: "We see a direct connection between the practice of contraception and the practice of abortion. The mind-set that invites a couple to use contraception is an antichild mind-set. So when a baby is conceived accidentally, the couple already have this negative attitude toward the child. Therefore seeking an abortion is a natural outcome. We oppose all forms of contraception."

Okay, sooooo...getting pregnant accidentally while using the rhythm method is going to make it a loved and wanted child?? Space Monkey Logic.

It gets worse though, while trying to find that gem online (I read it from newsprint), I came across this, and included it to make your day a bit more surreal:

"New federal guidelines ask all females capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves—and to be treated by the health care system—as pre-pregnant, regardless of whether they plan to get pregnant anytime soon," reports the Washington Post. "[T]his means all women between first menstrual period and menopause should take folic acid supplements, refrain from smoking, maintain a healthy weight and keep chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes under control... [I]t's important that women follow this advice throughout their reproductive lives, because about half of pregnancies are unplanned and so much damage can be done to a fetus between conception and the time the pregnancy is confirmed."

Final bit of Space Monkey Logic:

"Last week, the Black Jack City Council rejected a measure to change the law prohibiting more than three people from living together in the same house if they are unrelated by blood, marriage or adoption."
