Well, I bought a new hard drive to replace the one that died. It's hard to believe that the smallest hard drive commonly available is 100GB, and 200GB are only a little pricier. I did a pretty good re-install of GameOS and then overwrote the install with whatever was recoverable from the damaged drive.

I only lost a few things: An episode of MST3K, my Half-Life 2 saved games, and sob my BloodRayne saved games. Waaauugh!

Since they're getting cheaper... maybe set it all up in a RAID array?

I'm strongly considering doing so myself.

Hmm. An 800GB raid array, with 3+1 protection (giving me 600GB of useable space with guaranteed recovery), would be... about $500. That's still more than I've got now, but it's very tempting.

Yeah, well... I am a man who got his plastic cards taken away for the indefinate future because he spent a little over $1,000 on various computer/techie harware & software in a month.

Hey - the Dual-Tuner DTivo needed a 400GB drive, really! and the software was legit, and ... uhm... Yeah. So I don't have an allowance for a few months. ;)

Prices alwasy seem to be a bit higher. here in the UK, but back-ups are going to be a bitch.
