Private Service Announcement

For a variety of reasons, I'm going to take parts of my LJ friends-only. Posts that I normally mark as "life" or "family" will now be available only to people on my friends' list. And that includes my love life. Who I'm sleeping with is not my kids' business, and Yamaarashi-chan, at least, can read my LJ. And more importantly, as I've gotten older I've learned the need for at least a little privacy.
There will still be a lot of traffic on my LJ. After all, writing, programming, movies, wine, food and the rest aren't aspects of my family life and I'll be willing to post those as often as usual.
But if you want to read my LJ for the more domestic elements, I recommend you ask to be friended, and I will welcome you into my LJ.

Date: 2005-09-20 03:15 am (UTC)As a matter of fact, you are the person who initially made me really look into my own sexuality. I remember a post on USENET back in... circa 1993 - where you told a confused young man (who was asking for someone--"A STRAIGHT MAN! - Wife or Girlfriend must be present!" [grin]) so he could satisfy his curiousity... and your response was ... well, classically you. I'd repost my memory of it, but, well, the reasons you are making things private precludes that.
Erm, yeah. I would like to be added to your filter, if you are comfortable doing so.

Date: 2005-09-20 03:22 am (UTC)Though obviously it's fully up to you, you don't know me much at all, and I understand the need for privacy.
Just a note though, I also have children with LJ's, but sometimes I post things friends only, but want ny children to see it (as they have friended me, and I them), so I actually have several friends groups, one of which is "not kids", so all my friends except my children are included in that one.
I also have other freinds groups such as "really close friends", y'know, the ones I can trust to discuss intimate details of current, um, 'affairs' when those are sensitive and shouldn't be known about by everyone on my friends list.
I even have some friends groups which contain a single person, where we can discuss things of a very intimate nature :). If LJ's privacy ever fails I could get into some trouble, but it turns out that for some people I know this is more secure than email because they share a computer or email account with their partner or parent and want to discuss things that they don't want the other to know about.

Date: 2005-09-20 03:39 am (UTC)We've never met, but I really *do* like reading about how you do life, down south in Seattle. I've learned various things and had to rethink various things, thanks to your LJ.
I'll go friend you, as well, since my journal is private for similar reasons.
