Date: 2004-08-11 01:26 pm (UTC)Really. I've heard of this sort of thing happening before.

Date: 2004-08-11 02:26 pm (UTC)Despite being crude and shocking, I guess it is a bit of relevant social commentary. Or at least I'm reading this book confiscation scenario as similar, it would appear that the guard coveted the book to read over his break or something, but didn't care about the more explicit and risque Maxim covers. Americans are no safer with these ridiculous searches and capricious confiscations.

Date: 2004-08-11 05:35 pm (UTC)We used to get the best grass, switchblades, smut, and other stuff out of that footlocker.
The guard you linked about is either (a) too cheap to buy his own porn or (b) a bible thumper in the wrong job.

Date: 2004-08-12 01:26 am (UTC)I flat out told him he cant have it and if he denies me access due to a book cover Ill have the media all over this place for violating my rights as an individual to own literature. The guy acted all farenheit-451 and threatend to take it anyways but the manager showed up and kindly let me pass. I was pissed but attributed it all the craziness this security shit is causing. Maybe ill contact RGRTA (local authority) about this afterall...

Date: 2004-08-12 05:56 am (UTC)My problem is that reports of such things are making people afraid to carry certain books on certain occasions. Our mindscape is being terroformed[*] by fear of people low on the chain of command.
[not a typo. a real word. At least, it's a real word now: I made it up especially for this entry]

Date: 2004-08-12 01:46 pm (UTC)"terrorformed" might be better: either way it's a good word for what this sort of thing does.
Because of terror or FOR terror?
Date: 2004-08-12 03:57 pm (UTC)Thi is not being done BECAUSE of terror but to proliferate terror. Thats my opinion on this, hopefully I wont be too shouted at for voicing it.
