Omaha, Hospitalized Again...
Mar. 29th, 2011 08:50 amOmaha is in the hospital again. She awoke this morning around 3am with chest pain, and after a quick call to the charge nurse the response was "Get your ass to the hospital now." So we got.
The EKG was completely normal. The same night doc as the one we encountered when Omaha's kidney stones started, Dr. Patrick, was in charge and he first said, "Weren't you in here recently?" He then said that he didn't think it was anything, but he was glad we came in anyway.
Nurses and orderlies came and drew blood, took x-rays, and wired up the walking EKG unit. Many comments were made about how Omaha and I were busily tweeting our morning. One orderly made a comment about how he hoped Omaha's problem was just something left over from the nasty head and chestcold that's been going around. Omaha had it last week, and Kouryou-chan still has it.
An hour later he came back and said, "Well, surprise, surprise, you're showing an elevated level on an enzyme that shows up only when heart muscle is damaged. It's not in the danger zone, but it's not normal either. So we're admitting you and I'm calling a cardiologist."
Okay, now I'm freaked out.
An hour after that, I went home, leaving Omaha in the care of the ER staff. SixfreakinAM and everyone is awake. I got Storm out the door, almost burned the house down making breakfast. Kouryou-chan still has her cough, so she's staying home.
I'm at my computer. I'm pretending to work. I don't have the brain.

Under the headline of "What gets measured gets managed," I've been taking notes on what I eat and drink and do, in order to figure out what works and what doesn't with respect to getting a good night's sleep.
Here's what I've learned: to get a decent night's sleep, I must stop all caffeine by 4pm, possibly earlier. That's not a surprise, a lot of people tell you that.
I was annoyed to discover that I must also cut off all alcohol by 7pm. Any alcohol at all, even one glass of wine, after that appears to disrupt the first REM cycle by a significant amount.
Since my REM cycles are about 130 minutes long, that means that I lose 1/3rd to 1/4 of my useful sleep period. That's not good. So, lovely, I can't even have that useful glass of wine at night. Not if I want to get a decent night's sleep.
I did try the so-called "elephant tranquilizer": Step into the shower set to ALL COLD just before jumping into bed. Great Cthulhu's Ghost, that worked. As shocking as the experience might seem it wasn't that painful, and when I got under the covers I fell asleep instantly.

Recruiter Resume BINGO!
Mar. 29th, 2011 10:59 amOver at T-Mobile, you know, the people who are about to be bought by AT&T, but who continue to mock AT&T's lousy service anyway, a job appears to have opened up for which my resume must ring BINGO, because in the past two hours I've fielded five recruiter calls. Two were very professional, the other three were out-of-town bottom-feeders.
It would be nice if I could tune my resume to bring me the jobs I really want. Huh. Maybe that's an experiment to try...
