What is it with me breaking glass today?

Today, I've already broken two things: the oven thermometer, the glass face of which broke while I was pre-heating the broiler this morning to make egg & cheese sandwiches, and my coffee maker, which I knocked against another glass in the dishwasher, seemingly no harder than I've knocked it before, and it shattered in my hand.

Fortunately, I don't believe in omens.

Another manly art, threatened with extinction

Excalibur Cutlery at Southcenter Mall is gone. The kitschy knife store with the suit of armor out front has closed its doors, with no hint as to whether it will ever return.

While the bulk of its business was in knives, it was also the one place outside of the gay epicenter of Seattle, East Broadway, where one could reliably buy shaving soaps, razors, badger brushes, and blades.

It's so bad that yesterday Omaha caught me, naked, rummaging through the S&M toybox. "What are you doing?"

"Looking for my razor strop."

"... Why?"

"Sadly, because I want to strop a razor."
