What an odd condition of the law!

Yamaraashi-chan yesterday asserted that it was "illegal" for me to leave her in the car. I asked her if she knew there was such a law in Washington State, or if she had just heard this third-hand. She was sure it existed.

Well, I went and looked it up.

RCW 9.91.060: Leaving a child unattended in a parked vehicle.

Every person having the care and custody, whether temporary or permanent, of minor children under the age of twelve years, who shall leave such children in a parked automobile unattended by an adult while such person enters a tavern or other premises where vinous, spirituous, or malt liquors are dispensed for consumption on the premises shall be guilty of a gross misdemeanor.

I wonder why the "condition" is there at the end? I would bet most kids who've died baking in a car were left there by someone who was forgetful for some reason other than drink.

It's also illegal to leave a child in a car if the motor is running.

In the real world, nobody knows you're an obscenity.

So, this morning I took Yamaraashi-chan to her regular optometry appointment. Like every time, they did the eye chart thing. The third line from the top read FOAD.

I told the technician it would probably be wise to change that. And yes, I told her why.

Ugh. I have a cold.

It's definite. Itchy eyes, sneezing, sore throat. Frack. I don't have time for this.

Now that was silly

I decided to watch Simoun raw. So the first thing I did was try and translate the kanji during the opening scene. I struggled for twenty minutes to find the first two kanji in the sentence in my SKIP dictionary before I figured out that it read "While watching Simoun..." and didn't need to translate the rest.

Oh, my, Simoun is sillier than I thought...

Simoun is even sillier than I thought. Get this: it's a long-lost colony on a distant planet. They're all genetically engineered humans. Everyone starts out life female; it's only after a "second puberty" around 16 that they get to choose to change their sex if they wish, but those who have so chosen can't operate their fighter aircraft. (Why anyone would choose to be male in this society is beyond me; women occupy absolutely every upper office.)

The art isn't all that great, either. But damn, there is a lot of girl-on-girl angst. And snogging.
