Weekend Update
Jun. 9th, 2003 11:56 amFriday night
omahas went out with a friend, so
jenkitty came over and helped me care for Kouryou-chan while I cooked up dinner. It was just a little thing-- Tuna Nicose' sandwiches (cooked tuna, Nicose' olives, capers, green beans to add crunch, on a bed of lettuce, stuffed into a pita, tossed with a blend of olive oil, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt) and potato salad (tossed with green onions, sour cream, mayonnaise, and the other half of the squeezed lemon).
(A little frugal gourmet here: total, this cost about two bucks a person. There is no excuse for not eating well in this country.)
Afterwards, I also whipped together some brownies, using Scharfenberger chocolate and no baking powder. Sinful in the extreme.
This was my first ocassion to spend any significant time in Jenkitty's company when she wasn't completely swamped with other people vying for her attention. Admittedly, she didn't get all of mine, not when Kouryou-chan walked into the kitchen while we were throwing dinner together and said, point blank, "Daddy, I want your attention," which made Jenkitty crack up.
Jenkitty is definitely one of those people who I'm inclined to like instantly; she's open and clever and comes across as just a little vulnerable, which is an incredibly attractive quality in any woman. She's so easy to talk to, bright and interesting.
Omaha came home and while she and her friend played Pente' (hey, someone who can actually defeat her!), Jenkitty listened while I put Kouryou-chan to bed. She's remarkably good with the little sprog after all, but it took a few tries to convince Kouryou-chan to actually go to sleep. She crashed readily enough once she'd lain down long enough.
( The rest of the weekend was nice, too... )
