Apparently, I've been Slashdotted over the The Only Fair Game. Poor Larry. One mistake (mentioning it in Man Kz*n Wars IV, not slamming me) and it was all over.

Not that that's bad, mind you. I normally get about seven hundred story downloads a day. So far, TOFG was download 1600 times. I don't think that's going to overwhelm Drizzle's poor little server, which is a pretty robust commercial webhosting server, but it's nice to see that kind of traffic.

Now if only it would generate some donations, that would be something!

I wonder if I'm the only person that was familiar with Elf's work before I read any of Larry's. I was very pleased with myself when I finally found a used copy of Man-Kz*n Wars IV and got to read the introduction.

I read the Journal Entries via USENET when I was in college. I didn't pick up "Ringworld" and "The Integral Trees" until years later.

And, as you can see, I'm kinda fond of Elf's work. :)

Cool!

And no, I'm not offended by your name choice. Puzzled, a bit, but he is a fictional character, all the same.

And those guinea pig costumes were painful. Why would you do that to a poor, innocent, furry animal?

(Don't answer that.)

It was too good to pass up. LiveJournal... Journal Entries... I couldn't resist.

And I am in no way connected to that bizarre guinea pig page. Some things are just too painful to bear witness to alone. :)

I do believe I read Ringworld before reading this story, but I'm not totally sure. ;) I suck at remembering timelines in any sense of the word and timing in my life in general. ^_^ I do know it was before I met him, and it was quite funny realizing Omaha's husband was *that* Elf Sternberg. ;)
*HUGS* I'm sure Drizzle will handle the Slashdotting (I love Drizzle), but I hope your pocketbook doesn't suffer for it. :(

I read a lot of Larry's work before Elf's, including the reference to Elf's parody story, but didn't make the connection quickly, because the first thing I read by Elf was the Journal Entries. I remember thinking "cool, another ringworld", but that's about it - took quite a while to pull my self out of the book so to speak, and look at Elf's other work, at which point I burst out laughing, remembering Larry's comment :)
