So we made more bread. Yes, and this time we didn't use the damned bread machine, but did it by hand. Kouryou-chan is a little too young to do anything more than help stir the dry ingredients, but I got Yamaarashi-chan to help knead it. I figured it would be fun for her to get messy and mix and bang and punch on the dough, and it was fun for a while. Problem was, we were making a light French yeast dough (one-quarter wheat) and it starts out really sticky and gooey, and when she suddenly realized that she couldn't get some of it off her fingers she immediately started to freak out a little. But I got her into the bathroom and she washed her hands and things were okay after that, but she didn't want to help anymore. Oh, well.

It came out much better this time. We even did the raising in an elongated canvas sack, the way French bread is supposed to be raised. About the only problem I had was I lacked a proper steamer for the oven so the crust was a little tougher than I would have liked to be, but inside it was moist and wonderful and the kids slathered on a little olive oil and we all head a great time.

I'm rather pleased to see the number of people who have come out and introduced themselves since I joined LJ. I was once a "visible feature of Usenet," I suppose, so it's nice that there are so many sweet people who remember.

And someone emailed me: "What the f#%@ is up with all that pink?" Well, I'm not gonna explain it. Nope, no sir. Suffice it to say that pink is one of my favorite colors for all the usual reasons, some of which mark me as an adult and some of which, well, let's just say I have Piro's syndrome: I alway play the girl character if I have the option. Admittedly, I like first person shooters, but I still play the woman marine if I can. It'll only get worse as I start hacking in my favorite fonts and logos.

I've been writing a lot recently. Two, possibly three thousand words a day, of story, and I'm really enjoying it. Yes, you'll all get to see them eventually. There are two more Misuko and Linia episodes coming, for one thing, and Dreamteam Calamities is almost finished. I just have to get the Katrina episode and the orgy scene done.

Always wondered

if the pink color had any special connotations in English. 'cause in Russian it implies 'lesbian' just like 'sky blue' implies 'gay'. But I never saw the reason for it and wondered if it came from English. What's your take?

Have no idea...

Dunno. I just like pink. In the U.S., it's primarily the color adopted by young, anti-gothic femme types. Which is why I like it.

Hi!
[livejournal.com profile] riverheart suggested I talk to you. I'm a writer, working on a project where a race is based on ferrets (yes, I know it's overdone, and of course I'm putting in some twists). I'm trying to find some good artwork that will help me in nailing the verbal description of what these folks would look like, and I was told that you could point me in the right direction. Any help would be most appreciated.

Oh, excellent question!

Probably the best resource for all manner of "furry" art is the VCL (http://us.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/), which contains a huge repository of Furry art, not all of it work-safe (just to warn you in advance). There's also the [livejournal.com profile] furryreaders community if you want some literary references, and for general furry art, you can ask the nice people on [livejournal.com profile] furrtive for references to ferrets, explicitly. I don't know of any off the top of my head, but those are all excellent places to start looking.

"Remember" would be one word for it. "Value and appreciate with much gratitude" might be another (ok, that's more than one).

Me finding out you are on LJ:

OK, all done embarrassing myself with the fannishness.

Nice to meet you. I'm Sarah.

Actually, I'm coming out to introduce myself, too. I've been hearing about you for about 14 years, now, as you and Omaha knew my brother Jeremy back in Melbourne. (Jeremy, but I'll leave his last name out, for the moment.)

But it turned out that I ended up meeting a few people who knew you, as well, and I just wanted to wave in, let you know I was reading your LJ, and sing "It's a Small World" at you for a few bars. (I may have been hearing about you for years, but it's only been in the last few months where I started finding out how many of my good friends knew you. Catsy's one of them.)

Hi.

Hi!

Most cool! Say "Hi!" to Jeremy for me if you can. I last saw him in the parking lot of some low-rent grocery store. He said he had a kid on the way. I hope he's well. And anyone who uses The Winslow, He Who Cannot Be Destroyed ("Hi!") as an icon is okay in my database.

The greetings to Jeremy will go out this weekend. (I only noticed upon getting your comment that I stuck his name in twice. I'm not normally that doltish, I've been short on sleep lately and it affects my brain cell.)

And anyone who knows who The Winslow is can't be bad in my book! (I still have an amazing fondness for bound hardcopy.)

Remember you? Hell yeah.

I've noticed a few of your comments in [livejournal.com profile] sextips and wondered if it was THE [livejournal.com profile] elfs.

Over a decade ago, I ran a BBS. One of my co-sysops was a huge fan of yours, and would upload your offerings into our text files section religiously. When I first ventured out onto the internet a couple of years after that, I would read your writings on a regular basis.

Thanks for all of the wonderful stories over the years, and welcome to LiveJournal.

Thank you! That's wonderful! I knew a few BBS admins who would do that so I don't suppose you remember which one, do you? I hope that now that you've seen me here you'll catch up on all the recent stories (http://www.drizzle.com/~elf/journals/bydate.html), too!
