I stopped by the dance studio today to tell them that Storm wasn't going to be attending her weekly dance class. The receptionist was on the phone, so while I sat and waited for her to finish her conversation I picked up a copy of the Dance 2011 catalog from one of the bigger dance costume companies. Dance costumes must be a big business, because this was a huge 202 page glossy 10x17 heavy-weight paper perfect-bind magazine, the expensive kind usually reserved for high-end fashion.

It took me a while to find the "guys" section. It was all the way in the back. Out of 206 pages, there were 4 pages of acessories, 199 pages of girl's clothes, and 3 pages of men's clothes.

Three pages? That's it? Women get hundreds and hundreds of variations, costumes, character types, and so forth, and men get... three pages of multi-colored tights in two patterns, along with three different cuts of vest with color options for sequins.

Jeez, no wonder guys don't want to go into dance. The industry's not interested in them, either.
