Storm
Yamaraashi-chan and I had a conversation yesterday evening, and one of the things we decided was that she no longer needs to be protected from the Internet by a psuedonym. She has her own Facebook account, which in true 13-year-old style is full of "OMG!"s, idle worship of idol celebrities, and the occasional shout of "Life is too confusing!", and it is under her own name.

Therefore, she would like me to stop calling her Yamaraashi-chan in print, and refer to her by her given name,

Ehh, for probably 20 years now (gosh, has it been 20, maybe 21 years, already?!) I thought "Elf" was Elf's given name. Much cooler than when I discovered indirectly what it really was.

It'll be an interesting reveal to find out what you named Kouryou ... but I'll say this, I'll be way disappointed if it's something like "Moonshadow" ... ;-)

Nope, nothing like Moonshadow. Although when her name is shortened, you'll get a laugh. I will give you this hint: it's Welsh.

Oh, phew. For a second, I thought you named her Fnord or something. :-)

So, it's about 45 letters long with lots of 7-consonant-pile-ups in it?

Wait. His name isn't actually Elf?

I suppose next you're going to disprove the existence of Santa and the Easter Bunny...!

OMG, I know right? That's what I kept saying when I learned the truth, too ...

Well, that really depends on what you mean by a "real" name. Omaha is my real name. It isn't my given name. It's my middle name that I added legally back in 97 because I realized then that more people knew me by that name then knew me by my given name. It was more *real* for me than my real name.

So, what is a "real" name? I think it's whatever you and most everyone else know you by.

I guess "real" is meant to imply "legally given name at birth." I add the "at birth" because many people legally change their names.

I don't know if its the same in the US. But in Australia the name that most people know you by is your name legally.

To me, "Real name" refers to legal name. I know your Real Name is Omaha, although I don't know what name your parents (or whoever) chose for you.

So is Elf his Real Name?
