I guess there's no better way to distinguish that you really aren't, and want nothing to do with, that economic powerhouse 35 miles to the west named "Seattle," known for its coffee, its culture, and its liberality, than to fly the Stars and Bars, the official flag of the Confederacy.

I may have to drive out there before September 12th, so that I can hold a flag-burning party.

That flag was never officially recognized in any capacity by the CSA. The first flag of the CSA, the "Stars and Bars", had three stripes (red-white-red) and a blue canton with a circle of white stars. The second flag of the CSA, the "Stainless Banner", which featured a white field with the Army of Northern Virginia battle flag. That battle flag was square, not rectangular, but was otherwise the same as the flag in the picture. The third flag, the "Blood Stained Banner", was identical to the Stainless Banner except that it had a red stripe on the fly end.

All technically true. However, the rectilinear variant of the battle flag is the most recognized "rebel" flag, and is the flag flown by the various racist and separatist movements extant in the United States.

Burning the rebel flag would get the appropriate rise compared to, say, the first Confederate Jack, which was a blue square with white stars.

Nevertheless

The "Stars and Bars" is a different flag. This one is approximately the Battle Flag.

I dunno...this is a very ODD collection of flags.

The one on the far right is the Ka Hae Hawaiʻi, or Hawaiian State Flag. Seeing that in Seattle doesn't surprise me at all. The middle flag is a Vietnam Vets flag, "Our Cause Was Just".

I'd wager they've got the whole "Heritage Not Hatred" thing going on.

What does bother me is that they've got the Confederate Flag on the wrong pole. THAT pole is only supposed to have ONE flag on it, the United States Flag. And no other flag may fly higher than the US Flag when it is displayed on US soil.

As Blaise pointed out above, if they wanted to do a "heritage not hatred" thing, they'd fly the actual flag of the Confederacy, not the rebel flag. The rebel flag is the symbol of a loosely-knit guerrilla movement intent on establishing white Christians as privileged above other religions or races.

And it has been for many, many decades.

Since no US Flag is being flown, the rules of US Flag Etiquette do not apply.

Actually, there is a US flag being flown, but you can't see it in the picture because Elf didn't get the lens wide enough to show it. On the left hand side, a ways away from the other flags, and flown low enough to drag on the ground, was the US flag.

Ah. Well. In that case, I'd be tempted to take a picture of the full ensemble and mail copies to the local American Legion, VFW, and similar organizations which get more upset than I about flag etiquette.
