The Tea Party’s war on cities: The Tea Party contingency in Congress has declared war on mass transit and seeks to gut the mass transit allowance of the annual national transportation bill, allocating all of it to highway and roadway construction. They don't even provide a decent fiscal reason for doing so. Outside of Congress, their object is clearly stated: cities are racially mixed and sources of cultural "alternatives." Defunding mass transit throws sand in the gears of the engines of their discontent.
