Veteran's Day

My family didn't have many veterans that I know of. My father served as a ship-based medic in Korea, but rarely spoke about it, never seemed to have any pride in it, and never made much of a deal about it either way.

My great-uncle Richard on my mother's side was a survivor of Buchenwald, and I'm grateful to Capt. Fredrick Keffer's squad for their efforts, but the last member of that squad, James Hoyt, died earlier this year. For him, I raise a toast, and pray that the need for efforts like his will be rare in the future.

Rare indeed. Today is the anniversary of my grandfather's death. He served in the Aleutians in WWII, and basically never talked about it.
