My brain, doing Last Call!

- Is Laura Bush campaigning for Barack Obama?
- I heard this on NPR this afternoon. Laura Bush is going to be at the Service Nation Summit, where "leaders of all ages and from every sector of American life -- from universities and foundations, to business and politics -- will celebrate the power and potential of citizen service and lay out a bold policy blueprint for addressing America's greatest social challenges through expanded opportunities for volunteer and national service."
Laura Bush is going to spend today with community organizers! Quick, someone warn Rudy Guiliani! Someone call Sarah Palin! - Huh? McCain's "serious"?
- In the opinions section of the Washington Post, the editors write: "John McCain is a serious man who promised to wage a serious campaign," and then go on to say quite clearly that he has failed to do so.
How can we continue to say that McCain is a "serious" man when he has lost all semblance of seriousness? How can the MSM continue to support the claim of "honorable" when he has run such a filthy, low-blow, lying campaign? How can he continue to use the term "maverick" when time and again he has shown himself to be a reliable lackey of the current administration and its policies? How can he continue to use the term "reformer" when he brought into his campaign a woman so obviously attuned to the petty abuses of small-town power? - McCain believes Palin interviewing with "numerous people in the next couple of days."
- That's funny, because really, other than the expected puff piece coming of ABC this Friday, the McCain campaign staff have indicated that Palin is doing no interviews in the next two weeks. Does this man not know what's going on in this campaign? This is like Reagan, where in his second term we used to joke about which cabinet member got to put his hands up the president and make his lips move, only McCain is campaigning for his first term.
- McCain's tax increase he doesn't want to talk about
- Time's Joe Klein has given up on John McCain. He now calls the the McCain's press releases "Senator Honor's daily lies and bilge," and then points out that his plans for health care would raise taxes on the young, union workers, and families with pre-existing conditions among their children. Why the Hell isn't the Obama camp talking about this?
- Factcheck factchecks McCain factchecking Factcheck
- Factcheck.org is one of the best sites on the Internet for actual analysis of who's saying what in this campaign. A few days ago, they called several emails going around the Internet about Sarah Palin "completely false" and "misleading." The McCain campaign used those quotes, over a photograph of a mean-faced Barack Obama, implying by association that the Obama campaign was responsible for the emails.
Factcheck is now furious that the McCain campaign has used them in this way, saying clearly that in both the original article and as of today, none of the rumors about Sarah Palin circulating on the Internet had come from the Obama campaign. The association made in the ad, entitled "Fact Check," is grossly misleading. - Sarah Palin seeks to block investigations into her Alaskan misdoings
- The McCain's campaign to shut down "troopergate" and to close out any remaining investigations into Palin's actions while in office, both as a governor and as a mayor, are in full swing. Enjoy!
- Not a rumor: Palin required rape victims to pay for forensic kits
- I didn't believe this when I first heard it, but it has been confirmed: When Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, she required rape victims to pay for the forensic kits or the police would not collect the evidence.
The state of Alaska passed a law specifically in response to Wasilla's policy effected by then-Mayor Sarah Palin. - Judge warned Sarah Palin to 'back off' from attacks on state trooper.
- Palin's viciousness against her ex-brother-in-law became so extreme that a judge warned her to stop making disparaging remarks about him, saying that doing so within earshot of his son could be construed as abusive toward the child.
Also, in keeping with Sarah Palin's complete disregard for women's issues noted above, the public safety commissioner she fired for, basically, his failure to be loyal to her, was the state's leading figure in combatting violence against women. Alaska has one of the highest spousal abuse rates in the nation. - Sharia Plan
- It's an anagram of "Sarah Palin!" Obviously, she's secretly a Muslim Manchurian Candidate, who moved to the least populated state in the nation and used a combination of superpopulist rhetoric and feminine wiles to land a job that would get her on the list for potential vice presidents. Other operatives made it impossible for anyone else to be considered, and now she's one jab of her poison-tipped ice skate away from running the country and mandating all of our kids go to madrassass and pray toward Mecca!
Hey, it makes more sense than what they're saying about Obama.
