Keyword fail
Nov. 13th, 2013 12:48 pmThe other day, I received an entertaining direct message on twitter from a recruiter. "Yo, Elf, I saw you wrote something about containerization. Have you thought about working for Docker?"
This entertained me because it revealed a keyword search with zero actual research into what I was talking about. Docker in this context is a "containerized operating system," a kind of ultra-lightweight virtual machine manager for Linux instances. It's a nifty tool. I have thought about sending them my resume, but I'm currently happily gainfully overwhemingly employed.
However, when I was discussing containerization on Twitter, I was talking about intermodal shipping, the literal big containers you see on massive cargo ships, trains and flatbed tractor-trailers; I was doing research for a story idea I had about how aliens give a quasi-Victorian-culture shipping magnate the real secret to ruling the world.
I guess she did a keyword search for "Python developer" and "containerization" and thought she had a hit. She did; I do actually match the criteria. But the keyword fail there is still hilarious.
