Expelled! from AutismOne

The man behind Autism News Beat went to AutismOne, a yearly conference held by those who believe in a vast, international conspiracy to hide the truth that autism is on the rise (it isn't) and that vaccinations or other childhood treatments are to blame (they aren't). At one panel which was headed by Dr. John Poling (whose child recently did receive compensation for vaccine-related injuries), he asked when Dr. Poling was going to release his daughter's medical records as promised.

Apparently, asking that question was too confrontational. Fifteen minutes later he was Expelled! from the conference after being told, "This conference is supposed to be a positive thing, and you're making it negative." The Woo Is Strong. (via Respectful Insolence)

Susan Orr leaves the Department of Health and Human Services.

Yay! Orr was the woman who opposed insurance coverage for birth control on the grounds that "fertility is not a disease," and because it would make those who had that insurance but did not use birth control "collaborators in the culture of death." She has no business at DHHS, especially not as head of its family planning services!

Phoenix Lander Parachute Deployment

This is about the coolest photo I've seen all year. One of our orbiting robots above Mars snapped this picture of the Phoenix Lander just after its chute opened. You can see the shell still glowing from re-entry heat, the shroud lines, everything. From 90 million miles away (5 light minutes!) humanity's primitive ambassadors have shown us what we mere monkeys can do.
