For the past two freaking weeks I have been trying to get information from the venue where Jonathan Coulton is supposedly appearing this weekend. I called the venue and nobody there could tell me what I really needed to know: was the Saturday night show accessible (which is, of course, different from "suitable") to minors?

They finally emailed me back my answer today: the Sunday show is 21 and up, but the Saturday show is not, but, oh, sorry, the Saturday show is sold out.

Fuck, fuck, fuck! You could tell me this TWO WEEKS AGO when there were still tickets available? Goddamn it, I was so hoping to take Yamaraashi-chan.

Aarrrgghhh. This is not how I want to spend my morning. Dammit, I should be fired as a dad for screwing this up like this.

My stress level is through the roof already. An accident on the 1st Avenue bridge and a bizarre decision by the local steel recycler to transfer their empty rail buckets across West Marginal Way during morning rush hour extended a normally 25 minute drive to a full 90 minute drive. I turned around at the recycler and drove around the holding station to 1st Ave and I must have hit every flamin' light.

At least I do not need coffee. GRRRRRR..... Mad, mad, mad, mad.

I checked Craig's list and didn't see any listings, but if it's really important to you, you might stand there Saturday and offer two adults $20 (or whatever) to trade their tickets for (available) Sunday tickets?

Know the feeling, having been there in Nov.

They had tickets for Saturday 2 weeks ago? I got our Sunday tickets on March 26 & Saturday was sold out.

Maybe they had cancellations?

Ah, that's why they had on Coulton's site "show added on the 27th" when it looked like the show had been there a while. What a pity they decided to add a 21+ show, to shut out the under 21 fans. How nice. :(

Given that the venue also has a Seattle Symphony chamber music gig at 7pm (presumably booked prior to the 2nd Coulton gig - Symphony tends to having things scheduled well in advance) I'm not sure how they could've added an all-ages show, unless they'd done it as at 2pm Sunday. Don't know if they even do matinees.

OTOH, the venue could've changed their "after 9pm is 21+" policy for a night.

1. You have *not* screwed up as a Dad. The circumstances were not in your control.

2. There's a slight chance that if you contact Coulton (or perhaps some of our filker crowd might be able to provide a contact) you could appeal to him for access on Saturday for Yamaraashi-chan.

I thoroughly agree with point 1. This was not your fault, nor should you be penalised for the outcome.

It seems to me that you did your best to get the info you required, and the other end dropped the ball (into a very deep trench, from the sounds of it).

I hope you can get tickets for the Saturday.

Another idea : post an ad on Craig's List looking for someone with Sat. tickets willing to trade (with incentive?) for Sunday tickets.

Long shot, but who knows, and less effort than going Sat and possibly being disappointed.
