Black Guy Asks Nation For Change.

Actually, I thought the speech was pretty awesome myself. But trust the Onion to take all the wind out of it without being completely fucking mindlessly stupid about it.

That was a darn good speech. I don't think it's totally defused the underlying problem of what choosing to remain a member of Wright's church for 20 years says about his views, though, and this'll get revisited again. For now, its deflected the criticism enough for his followers to feel comfortable again, and that's really all he needed to get out of it.

I think the speech said what needed to be said, and, IMO, effectively neutered what little there was in the way of legitimate concern over Senator Obama's relationship with his Pastor.

It was a "tempest in a teapot" before, and isn't even a (legitimate) ripple now.

The demagoguery won't end, unfortunately, but the Conservative movement is busy scraping the name "Hillary" off of the barrels of vitriol they've been brewing all these years, and stamping "Obama" on instead, so I'm certain there are more such "tempests" to come. Unfortunately.
