Saturday: Work party and performance

The day began with a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs. Afterward, the entire family trooped down to Kouryou-chan's school for the monthly work party where, once again, I worked my way around the school making sure the rain gutters and pipes were cleared. I swept the walkway while Omaha led a team to weed (or "pre-weed") the front yard. It was back-breaking work, no matter how you cut it. I did discover that a slotted spoon, the kind you use for cooking pasta, was the perfect tool for gutter work: it kept your hands out of the cold water and allowed the water to flow back into the gutter, leaving only the gunk to clear out.
After that, we went home and had a simple lunch. Afterward, I took the Christmas tree, which wasn't composting, off the compost heap, chopped it up and put it away into the yardwaste bin. I'll let the city figure out how to dispose of it.
This evening we had Kouryou-chan's second performance. It went better in some respects; Kouryou-chan was able to keep her nervous tic under control. She had all her lines, but she drifted at one point and Dizzy had to prompt her, rather than the other way around. She also blinked a lot, her eyes hurt her from the bright lights and allergies.
lisakit showed up, and I thank her deeply for that. It was nice to have someone else, since I have to sit through all three performances to deliver my line.
We went out to dinner after that, Kouryou-chan, Lisa and I. We went to a pizza joint called Romio's, had pretty good pizza. I went to the men's room and after washing my hands saw a book on top of the paper towel rack. It had a blue cover and nothing identifying it. I opened it and found that it was a copy of Narcotics Anonymous. I quietly put the book back.
