Sigh. After spending the last few days with Matt and Nico, I've written them both into a corner and myself with them. I thought the ending we were heading toward was bittersweet, more bitter than sweet, but now I've lost the sweet entirely. Time to brainstorm, hard, to get them back onto the bittersweet, and away from a murder scene.

Time for deus ex machina.

Wait, your writing fantasy?

OK, so this a story about coming out and gay sex set in the early part of the 20th century in the mid western United States? This story is going to be relatively historically accurate with the only real change being the inclusion of the Bastet?

No to be funny but if it doesn't include homicide at the end of it doesn't that make is fantasy?

Not that I don't want to see hot gay kitty sex ending in a happy, redemptive manner, but how far did you want to change this world from ours?

While the public outcry against homosexual activity is not the same as it is today, you might be able to set the story in one of those places where people tut-tutted but had a live and let live attitude.

I can hardly wait to see a copy of this, even if it ends badly.

Goodness, you make it sound like there were Great Queer Massacres all throughout the early 20th century. In fact, it was much less of a big deal; it wasn't wrapped up in identity. (Which is what's hard to write with this story; Nico does identify, Matt doesn't.)
