Apparently, some parents in the Pymatuning School District of Ohio a agitating for Intelligent Design or something similar in their local school system. And while I was reading through it I found this little gem:
Piper said his daughter is a straight A student and failed her test on the "big bang theory" because she didn't understand it.

"We're Christians," he said. "I couldn't even help her because I don't understand it."
You really have to giggle someone who believes it's okay to admit that his Christianity really is synonymous with ignorance. It's not. Ask Ken Miller.

I adore Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I didn't get to see their concert this year, but I'm definitely there next year!

One reason they may not have understood the Big Bang theory is, it would have had to happen no more than 6000 years ago.

I honestly don't think they even thought *that* hard about it.

Gosh darn it, it's a theory!!! How did we miss that?

Oh, but it seems that in these high-tech times, it's a matter of *pride* that you be ignorant. Surely you've heard someone announce loudly that they don't even know how to turn *on* a computer? Or that they're a total computer dummy and they don't get all this technology stuff?

It's not like, oh, I don't know, as if it was something to *hide* like being gay or something.

Well, if you go back several hundred years, you had people saying the same thing about literacy. "Read? What do you take me for, a priest? I'm sure that scribes can find useful thing to do with it, but no normal person will ever need it."

Sounds an awful lot like the stereotypical tech hating company exec talking about computers, doesn't it? A couple of decades ago ago people were starting to loudly proclaim that they couldn't get their VCRs to stop blinking 12:00. Today we're just starting to leave "I don't get this whole 'internet' thing." (we must be, my grandparents are now able to check their email) I don't know what the next equivalent will be, but I'm sure there will be one. Some things change, but this doesn't seem to be one of them.

How do you "fail" the Big Bang? Universe go blooey. Physics works, makes stars, planets. The end.

I don't understand how people can believe in creationism, but I understand the idea behind it. You don't need to believe it to understand it. If we could only understand what we believed in we wouldn't have any sci fi or fantasy fiction at all, no Lord of the Rings or Dune.

Noone who has watched anything with the tiniest amount of fantasy or science fiction has a right to say that. This includes the old gadget ridden James Bond movies, horror like Dracula or anything that involves monsters or other mythical creatures...
