It's been three hours since I started the backup routine. I just saw the notice. "Now backing up file #22527 of 440794." This is gonna take forever.

I recently did a full backup and restore of a 1.2TB filesystem to fix some irreparable corruption. It took days to complete.

Is your backup drive running with USB 2.0?

No, it's an older machine (the P2) from 1997. It has USB 1.1.

This sort of thing is why I own a laptop to regular drive adapter (they are around $8) and picked up an "obsolete" Gateway box (only 1.7 GHz) for the workbench. Just slap the laptop drive into the Gateway, slap in a backup drive and copy at full ATA speed.
