If you have arthritis in your chest, and someone makes you laugh so hard for so long that it flares up and causes great pain, I don't suppose there's anything you can really do but take multiple doses of ibuprofen.

That is one of my favorite of all time.

O seems to think that you and I would get along quite well. Reading a few entries, I suspect she's right.

Actually, I winced through the dinner party; never was something meant to be funny so damn painful to read. It was throughout the Council of Counts and Gregor's wedding that I laughed so hard I was scaring the cat. That's how something like that should wrap up.

The keystone cops scene of the butter bug battle was... amusing slapstick... but kept distracting from Lois's amazing upward spiral. The relentless "and all the pieces fall satisfyingly into place" of the Council of Counts should not have been interrupted by it.

...because while I liked her ending (of course, what was not to like?) the slapstick nature of the dinner party was the high point of the book for me.

Then again, I'm a connoisseur of the entire commedia d'ell arte so my tastes are probably not as refined as yours.

Naw, I suspect I'm just much more sensitive to social pain than others. Miles' suffering was much uppermost on my mind.
