How bizarre!

I just received the most bizarre email, from some woman claiming that "Aimee' is not yours" and demanded that I should "give credit where credit is due."

For the record, I did write the Aimee' series, both the first and second volumes, and I released them to rec.arts.erotica, starting with Chapter 1, in March of 1994. The copyright on the 1994 release reads:

"Aimee'" is copyright (c) 1994 Elf Mathieu Sternberg. May be freely distributed by electronic media; hardcopies are limited to single printings for personal use.

That would be me.

No, she didn’t. I sent back an email asking her who she thought did, and included the link to the original Dejanews article from (ack!) 13 years ago. I’m still waiting to read her reply.

It is so strange. I did repost the first Aimee' novel to Stories Online (http://www.storiesonline.net), and maybe she's just a little confused. But it was just so odd, all of it.

Possibility #1) Just as you say - rabid fan who is confused. Since this one is no fun to poke at, we'll ignore it.

Possibility #2) "You based it on me/my earlier work which this really doesn't resemble/my LATER work because of that whole 'Pendor time travel' story!"

Possibility #3) "Aimee belongs to the WORLD! You can't hold her back! CHARACTERS WANT TO BE FREE! (And I dress up like her when I Cosplay so back off, she's MINE now!)"

Cosplay or LARP.

I know of one case where somebody got all annoyed because she had a LARP character with the same name as a character in a set of porn fictions. See this account (http://www.silverglass.org/rants/character-theft.html) if you want the grisly details.

You do have an advantage: you've always been pretty open about what you write. Kitt, with good reason, keeps her RL identity private. Different local prejudices.

Trouble's Tales had a long, strange history, and I was almost surprised when the story came to a conclusion in '05, after 8 years real-time. But I consider it to have been worth the wait.

I was just finishing up my studies at UC San Diego when I saw Aimee' posted to alt.sex from your account at the time, with your copyright notice as above. Nice set of stories.

I'm puzzled as to why someone else would claim authorship. My best guess is that she is mildly delusional, read it during a relatively stable period, and now "remembers" that she wrote it. Sad.

Hmm! I've had people say that the Inanna's Girlhood things weren't mine, and determined it was because someone else had snarfed them to some other website, but that's not quite the same. And I had someone accuse me of not being who I said I was not that long ago, on the grounds that "Inanna would have never said that" because my opinions have changed so dramatically over the past 15 years.

It will be interesting to see what the woman says after your response.
