The Ruby Brigade!
Jul. 31st, 2007 09:45 pmSince Kouryou-chan isn't taking dance over the summer and Yamaraashi-chan is over at her mother's house, I had an opportunity this evening to go hit the Seattle Ruby Brigade meeting over at Cafe' Vivace.
I met a lot of very smart men who seem to be not doing a whole heck of a lot. Rails was the obvious talk of the day, and I received a great quick lesson on how to use migrations to version-control the database. I got into a religious discussion on Python vs. Ruby, and why Python has the lion's share of minds and why it's struggling against Ruby in document-embedded language applications like Rails and RHTML. (Basically, he hated the whitespace requirement in Python, which I pointed out was a case of convention over configuration-- a motto of ruby-- and he admitted that he really just hated the whitespace requirement.)
It was a pretty good time. I got there early and finished editing chapter 19 of Sterlings: Polly and Dove. (I posted chapter one earlier today, by the way. Go read, tell me what you think!)
Down to the wire now, only three chapters left.

Date: 2007-08-01 06:07 am (UTC)I am so not a code geek. I started reading this LJ entry and thought you were talking about a new handballing social group.
Nevermind.
