Chapter 15 in the can. Many writerisms killed: passive verbs, filters, and a resumed emphasis on the death of adverbs. The plot is solid at this point, although I keep thinking to myself that I should put in more forward and backward hints, better foreshadowing. Still, it's nice to have it all coming together.

Chapter 16, Stable Places is the last lull. It's a nice scene where we return to two characters who dropped out of the story for a while, check in, make sure they're doing well, before Dove's arc slams into a three-episode all out investigation comparing Aristotle's notion of friendships of passion vs. friendships of the good. (You think I'm kidding, don't you?). Oh, with threesomes. Lots of threesomes.

And then we get to the last three-episode arc of Zia & Polly.

The last word of the series has high family values: "home." Which is the point, in a way.

Anyway, it was a pretty good day here at the Villa. Finished most of the swingset (photos tomorrow), so the kids can now play on it. Discovered that the 18 inch groundspikes I needed to stabilize the slide don't come with the kit, and the wood required to make the monkeybars is not listed on the page of "wood required to make this kit." I had to jack the whole thing up on one side and dig holes to level it with respect to the ground's slope, then lower it, testing with the level until I had all six feet firmly planted in the ground and the crossbar was level.

We went to the Bi-Net picnic, ran into fallenpegasus and amythis there. Lots of good people otherwise, including some newcomers who we were able to determine in short order were bi, poly, and kinky, but we didn't get a chance to check their pagan cards.

Kinda quiet, really.

I'm fond of that one. I also like Writerism and other Sins (http://www.sfwa.org/writing/chadvce.htm), by C.J. Cherryh, and then there's my own list, which includes things like "revise for detail, filtering, active voice. Check prose rhythms of fight and love scenes. Check for classic errors: you're vs. your, its vs. it's." And scan for my spelling mistakes: "hear" and "here" and so on.
