elfs | Ann Althouse channels Sigmund Freud?

About half a year ago, I blogged about something that became known as L'affair d' Ann Althouse, in which law professor Althouse ran in tears from a legal conference in which one of the topics on discussion was the legal harms that had emerged from civil rights laws in the 1960s. Althouse was horrified to learn that there were legal scholars who believed that the federalization of state's powers through the Interstate Commerce Clause via the Civil Rights Acts had had detrimental effects on society, that there are people who "take moral and political ideas seriously." Ann Althouse has once again confirmed why Brad DeLong, a popular blogger and centrist economist, has repeatedly nominated her The Stupidest Person Alive, an award he dishes out once in a while to people who say extraordinarily silly things.

Her latest is about the silly, "humanizing" YouTube video Hillary and Bill Clinton have put out, some kind of spoof on the last episode of The Sopranos, in which Hillary serves Bill carrot sticks.

Bill says "No onion rings?" and Hillary responds "I'm looking out for ya." Now, the script says onion rings, because that's what the Sopranos were eating in that final scene, but I doubt if any blogger will disagree with my assertion that, coming from Bill Clinton, the "O" of an onion ring is a vagina symbol.

She then goes on to discuss the symbolism of Hillary denying vagina Bill. In a follow-up in which Althouse puts on her dumb "I don't know what all the fuss is about" face,

Here, Bill, in retaliation for all of your excessive "O" consumption, you may have a large bowl of phallic symbols! When we hear him say "No onion rings?," the camera is on her, and Bill is off-screen, but at the bottom of the screen we see the carrot/phallus he's holding toward her. Oh, yes, I know that Hillary supplying carrots is supposed to remind that Hillary will provide us with health care, that she's "looking out for" us, but come on, they're carrots! Everyone knows carrots are phallic symbols. But they're cut up into little carrot sticks, you say? Just listen to yourself! I'm not going to point out everything.

Sometimes a carrot really is just a carrot.
