Someone recently observed that almost all Islamicist movements in the world consist of young men being sent out to kill for the ideologies of old men.

Next week in Milwaukee, a group of radical evangelical groups will host a three-day celebration of the life of Paul Hill, who they nominate for what passes in the evangelical American church for sainthood and quote Matthew 25:23: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

So who is Paul Hill? He's a murderer. He murdered John Britton, a doctor who worked at an abortion clinic, Britton's bodyguard, and he seriously wounded Britton's wife. For this, he was sentenced to death by the state of Florida. And now we have a clutch of lunatics getting together to celebrate this man's vile deeds.

The height of their celebration will be a re-enactment of the murders. These people don't quite have the courage of their convictions. This might even be evidence that the death penalty is effective in at least keeping one group on a leash. Maybe they're hoping to whip a few of their stupider and more expendable members into following in Hill's footsteps.

This just goes to show how Fundamentalist Christianity is actually not a bunch of Jesus followers, but a death cult of epic proportions.

Sweetie wants to know how many virgins Fundamentalists get when they die. :)

I like Steve Martin's take on it: The Seventy-Two Virgins (http://www.newyorker.com/humor/2007/01/29/070129sh_shouts_martin).
