elfsAt work we've hired another user interface developer (and let one go, sadly). He's only been here about a month or so, and he came from a PHP background. We figured that as a PHP programmer he had the HTML knowledge necessary to further the UI and the programming experience necessary to wrap his head around Python, the language of choice around here.
He came up to me yesterday and said, "This weekend I worked on some of my old PHP projects, and, my god, that language is such a mess compared to Python. All of the things you do with Python, like introspection and generation, you just can't do in PHP 4. I've heard 5 is better, but it's still junk compared to how clean Python is."

Date: 2007-02-22 06:34 pm (UTC)That being said, I agree that PHP is very messy compared to Python. The recent SNAFU wherein the PHP team was accused of ignoring/downplaying bugs in PHP Core isn't helping the perception of that language either...
