I am a prophet, a prophet, I tell you!

In one of the Journal Entries, one of the characters talks about pornoscapes, private virtual realities people own and carry about with them as an "escape" from the real world. It is a logical extension of the porn-on-your-video-iPod that's been a staple of the business for a while now. One of thep points made in the course of the story is that Pornoscapes tend to be lower resolution than standard virtual realities, which are themselves not always perfect representations of the world: private VR realms tend to be small, cheap, and run by low AIs (or even non AIs), and dropping the resolution saves power and processing costs. But pornoscapes are low resolution for another reason: fantasy rarely involves unpleasant wrinkles, body odors, stubble, and the sticky, must-clean-up feeling afterward.
The porn industry has discovered this: Hi-Def porn reveals too much. (NYTimes: Probably SFW). Even in that purely visual medium, too much detail turns off the audience.
In another, I predicted that sometime in this decade we would have the technology to digitally remove condoms from AIDS-era videos. Guess what? A porn company claims to be doing just that (Fleshbot: NSFW). (I also predicted the end of the AIDS era, which sadly hasn't happened yet.)
I probably have a higher hit rate than the fortunetellers at the Sun.
