My mother likes to call and angst and anguish at me once in a while, usually when she's been drinking a little too much. She goes and on about how she failed me as a mother (funny, I'm the member of the family that's doing fine) and so forth and so on. She can't really worry about my siblings: Ruth isn't hers to worry about, Steve and Sandy both have their own much more messed up lives than my own.

At least now it's only for half an hour every week or so, rather than a real binge every month. But, still.

This week, however, was special. As I revealed recently, I bought a new phone. That one in the picture to the left. And yes, true to my nature, it is pink.

For some reason, this really freaked my mother out. She sounded very upset, as if it were wrong for me to have a pink phone. She insisted that since Omaha had a black phone I should "trade mine for Omaha's." She went on and on about how a pink phone was just not appropriate for a man and kept asking, "Are you sure? Are you sure?"

I finally had to say, "Mom, I am not an insecure man. And I am keeping my phone."

"Whatever. Whatever makes you happy. If it makes you happy, you go ahead and keep it." Sigh. She converted from Catholicism to Judaism, and she really learned how to manage guilt from both sides. Good grief!

Teehee, I have exactly the same mobile phone and I love it.
I love the over the top pinkness and the candycolor atmosphere that surrounds it.
However my mum didn't herrass me over the color (might be the fact that I'm female).

Exactly. I think she might be afraid that I'm secretly queer or something. Good thing she hasn't found my porn stash.

She might think I'm secretly queer. You know better.

I would have thought that she'd already have twigged to a certain amount of... metrosexuality? by now.

You mean you're not out to your own parents?

Oddly enough, no. They live 3000 miles away and I've never had cause to tumble their lives any more than necessary.

I, too, have a pink RAZR (I blame Apple, ultimately, for leaving the small pink electronic device niche in my life unfilled, since they discontinued the Mini right before we got our yearly bonuses) and a pink headset to go with it. My husband is afraid that I am turning girly.

But I love my RAZR. Among other things, it is fairly easy to find amongst my mostly black or otherwise dark wardrobe. ;-)

Next thing you know, you'll start eating soy products and start acting all funny.

Nonono. Soy's the cause, not the effect - remember?

From
this story in the New York Times:

When colors were first introduced to the nursery in the early part of the 20th century, pink was considered the more masculine hue, a pastel version of red. Blue, with its intimations of the Virgin Mary, constancy and faithfulness, was thought to be dainty. Why or when that switched is not clear, but as late as the 1930s a significant percentage of adults in one national survey held to that split. Perhaps that’s why so many early Disney heroines — Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Wendy, Alice-in-Wonderland — are swathed in varying shades of azure.

We should all get pink phones. Although I like my blue and silver one, I do need a new phone seeing as this one is acting up (I get static on calls now).

Of course, I'm gay, so I guess it wouldn't quite have the same impact. Does it count that I've managed to fly beneath 99% of the gaydars out there? Yeah, I'm that straight-acting.

That phone is not pink. It's *magenta*. *ahem* As are the accessories you can get for it, including the lovely magenta bluetooth earpiece. (I can get you *such* a deal!)

And I have one, too. I heart it dearly, because I just love that people are taking technology and pinking it up. I also have a pink Creative Zen PMD.

But again I remind you that that RAZR pictured is magenta. Pink is a different service provider's color, by contractual agreement of some sort.

Concur (said the Motorola employee). Unless the gamma on your camera was seriously out of whack, that's a Magenta. Genuinely Pink RAZRs are currently available exclusively from Verizon.

And mine's a black RAZR V3t (which is a T-Mobile spin on the V3i).

I love your new phone. I have the black razr and totally love it. Actually I love it so much that my partners each got one. J's is silver and michael's is pink like yours. It suits him perfectly.
