Well, after a breakfast of scrambled eggs with cheese, Omaha and I decided to take Kouryou-chan out of the house to do something other than let her go stir-crazy. She'd used up her allotment of TV time even before breakfast, and since we're without Yamaraashi-chan this weekend. So we went roller skating.

We had a lot of fun. Kouryou-chan would get disappointed with her lack of progress, get off the rink, then get back on. Omaha and I had no trouble going around and around, although I'm a bit envious of her ability to skate backwards. I can't do that. Kouryou-chan sat out the Hokey-Pokey, though, which was kind of sad. Lots of little kids, though, four and five year olds, who skated better than either of us. And a lot who didn't. But Kouryou-chan was still frustrated by her inability to skate as well as anybody.

Later that evening, we went to KidSounds Northwest's December concert, naturally because Yamaraashi-chan is in the choir. I had heard them rehearse on Wednesday and they were terribly off-key, but as the stage director said in Shakespeare In Love, "It's a mystery," because they sounded great tonight. And Yamaraashi-chan was so wonderful: she's lost the fidgets and stood tall, opened her mouth and sang strong. It's so wonderful to see her progressing so well.

I'm a little annoyed at her mother, though. Whenever it's been one of our weekends to have Yamaraashi-chan, we've waited in the reception in the lobby so Yamaraashi-chan could see her other relations and get their praise and hugs. They did, after all, drag themselves through the rest of the performances just to watch hers. But no, she never appeared, and when I asked one of the other kids if she was still downstairs they said, "No, she left just after the performance." Sigh. Some courtesy.

Anyway, got home safe. Had dinner. Fed Kouryou-chan and myself farfelle and marinara, cookies and milk for dessert. (Trader Joe's dunkers... what a brilliant idea. Cookies made to fit in a coffee cup.) And now it's time to put everyone, and I do mean everyone in the house, to bed.

I love hearing these. Glad it was a good day and night, old friend.

Wheel arrangement makes all the difference!

Have you tried in-line skates for the poor kid? I put regular skates on my other half's 6-year old, and all he could manage was falling and crashing. We strapped on the in-line skates, and in less than an hour, he was off on his own, not clinging to our hands anymore.
