He's dead, Jim.
Jun. 2nd, 2006 08:45 pmWell, the desktop is well and truly dead. It only booted some of the time, it seemed to die whenever some of the hard drives were connected, and when I transferred my boot and root drives to another box they were completely unreliable. Whatever went wrong inside my computer when wrong in a very, very bad way. The power supply might be the problem, because when there's very little power demand on it, it seems to boot okay but then it dies, badly. The boot drive starts throwing I/O errors. It looks like I'll have to try replacing the power supply next, and then... I guess the motherboard. The CPU seems to behave, at least it reads when it's booting.
