I rode my bike to and from work today. It was surprisingly pleasant going in, and I had far less physical trouble this time than the last time I rode, almost a month and a half ago. I don't know why; maybe the randomly interspersed circuits of squats, push-ups, and sit-up are working on my stamina better than I expected.

The ride home was different. It was wet. Soaking, actually, with a cold rain that contrasted nicely with the effort I was putting out. It's only a four-mile ride altogether, but I enjoyed it and was home soon enough. A few people tried to kill me on Second Ave downtown, but not enough to be memorable. And riding through Pike Place Market is always fun; there are so many interesting things to see there.

Maybe I'll ride again tomorrow. But I'll check the weather report first.

I used to ride for miles in the rain as a teen. I miss it; one of the things I'll never do again.

It may have been easier for you due to the season. Even wet, it is warmer now and that'll help keep you from stiffening up, keeps your muscles looser, even more than just the warming you get from the exercise.

You seem to hike for miles; why would you not be able to ride the same distance? Anyway, I suspect that you're right about the season; it was cool this morning, but no so much that I missed my gloves. Still, the ride home wasn't quite so much fun; I have no shield on the back wheel to my butt and back got soaked. Thankfully, my riding pack is very waterproof.

I don't know that it would do any good, but have you tried a recumbent? I gave up on riding my upright because of the the way I fit on the seat, but the tadpole I got (a Sun Bicycles EZ-Tadpole CX) is a lot easier to ride for any length of time -- full support under my ass and across my back is enormously more comfortable.

Um, because I get pessimistic on the days when I'm hurting more?

But really it's what Tabbifli said. Bending over to ride a bike tends to hurt more than walking on a nice springy forest floor. Been thinking about getting a bike again someday though, 'cause I do miss it.
