So, I've had some opportunities to use Viagra, and without trying to sound like a spammer let's just say that it's a freakin' miracle.
I have a bit of condom anxiety. It's very annoying, a leftover from a bad relationship a few years back, and I've been trying to deal with it without help, but finally I gave up and said, "Doc, got anything for this?"
There are three things you hear about Viagra: first, it's expensive, second, that it has odd side effects like messing with your color vision, and third that it's not an aphrodisiac. For the first, it's not that expensive: at my age and general health, a 25mg dose costs $2.85, which is less than the cost of a Reality and comparable in price to an Avanti, and given that I typically go through two or three of those in one bout the Viagra costs me less than the latex and lube.
Secondly, it didn't mess with my color vision. I don't know why; maybe it's because I lack those neurological circuits already, being slightly blue-green colorblind. All I know is that the world didn't change appreciably in color, which is something almost everyone else I know whose tried it has described.
The third is true: it's not an aphrodisiac. I didn't notice any change in my perception or response to the world around me at all. It didn't make me hornier. Viagra doesn't force the hardware to work: if you're not turned on by your partner you're not going to get an erection no matter how much you take. If you are aroused, it amplifies the hormones that facilitate erection.
At 25mg it did exactly what I wanted it to do: keep me erect while putting the condom on, and keep it hard enough to keep the condom from slipping off during intercourse. Which we did, over and over and over. I've read gushing testimonies where people write, "It's like you were 20 again!" No, it wasn't. It was like having the dick I expected to have when I was forty: robust and reliable, but not embarrassingly spontaneous, and hooked up to a mature adult who can only use the word "dude" in a sardonic way.
I also don't understand the whole bit about waiting an hour. So what if it takes that long to kick in, if you've decided to get into bed it ought to take at least an hour to get to outright fucking anyway, oughtn't it? And the stuff lasts anywhere from three to eight hours, with some residual effects noticeable even the next morning, so scheduling should not be terminally difficult. I can, however, vouch that it's not for anyone with a bad heart: maybe it's just that I last annoyingly long, but my abs and thighs ached after all that. Not that I'm complainin', mind you.
Anyway, even though insurance doesn't cover it, it's a very nice chemical, certainly better than anything more commonly used, and to me at least definitely worth every penny.
