Since all the cool kids are doing it:

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles
On the land as on the sea.
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marines.
Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job --
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

I like this one better:

We learned it in Crescent Harbor Elementary on the Whidbey Island Navy Base

From the halls of Crescent Harbor
To the shores of bubble-gum bay
We will fight our teachers' classes
With spit-wads, gum and clay.
We will fight for lunch and recess
And we will do our best
Our best

And I can't remember the rest. It's been awhile.

I used to sing this version too and I also can't remember the last line... I think I know one extra line more than you.

From the halls of Blessed Sacrament
To the shores of bubble-gum bay
We will fight our teachers' classes
With spit-balls, mud and clay.
We will fight for lunch and recess
And we'll keep our desks a mess
We are proud to say that... bla bla bla
that the school's a big fat mess... or something like that.

does that ring a bell?

ricky

I'm really curious, as the father of a current Marine, how this is an anti-war song?

I have always been of the opinion that a strong and functional military is the best deterrent for others who would make war upon us. Unfortunately, our chimp who walks like a prez doesn't understand the principles that make that true.

I hope your kid's okay.

That's demeaning to chimps.

Heh. Actually, I never knew that the line "to the shores of Tripoli" in the Lehrer song was a reference to anything in particular, before I read this LJ entry.

Learn something new every day...
