So I got about a quarter of the way into Nyssa's Guardian before I just gave up. Because the book devolved into a completely worthless S&M rape fantasy. Ubermale is given permission by the local authorities to "discipline" Nyssa as he sees fit. He proceeds to spank her, then fuck her silly. That was sorta okay. Then she gets all reactive on him and he reacts "wildly" (read that as "badly") that she doesn't immediately become utterly submissive due to his sexual prowess. He then proceeds to tie her down, and from a local cornucopia machine orders up a riding crop, police-style handcuffs, clothespins, "scarves, oriental-style", a candle and matches... all this mundane stuff available in a world with "electro-doors", heroes who can "hear a micropin drop at a kilometer's distance," and worse.

I really twitched at this line: "He ran his hand over her mons, settling his palm just above the cleanly lasered surface, smooth as silk, thanks to the finest personal grooming technology of the super-space age."

Uh-huh. It's called skin.

Gaaah! The so-called 'writing'--it burns!

No sh*t. A *real* Ubermale would have shaved it clean with his straight-razor in a few measured swipes. ;)

Wow. I didn't think such stuff still existed.
Makes me long for the Eye Of Argon in comparison. :)

I read this and think:

Hmm... a many-fauceted bathtub would have interesting possibilities. It would have to be red, bejeweled with emeralds. Grignr would like that.

Oddly, it's the "super-space age" part that's making me gag the most. Gee, how futuristically futuristic can we make this story and thoroughly underscore that this is More Futuristic Than Thou?

Ditto. That phrase rings false.

Sounds like someone who took all of 'Doc' Smith's space opera and managed to squeeze out all the sweep and grandeur, leaving only the horribly overblown adjectives.

Wow... I mean... that sounds awesomely bad. I've read bad stuff on alt.sex.stories* that wasn't that bad. If it were a parody those phrases might work.
