Blackout!

This afternoon, everyone took off from work early. We were sitting in the office when suddenly, foom! and all the power went out. There wasn't even a flicker. It was electronic death as sure as a bullet. Battery backups started screaming, and a shriek of indignation came out of the women's bathroom.

Seattle Power could not give us an ETA, and the entire subsection of the city was down. I gathered up my stuff and prepared to head out. I ran into my co-workers in the courtyard out front. "Are you taking off?" one of them asked me.

"Yeah," I said. "I'll call in once in a while. If the power comes back on, I'll come back. Meanwhile, I'm gonna go have lunch and see if I can find the new Iron Maiden CD."

"Whew," one of them said. "For a second there, I thought you were going to find a new iron maiden."

I said, "Why would I want two of them?"

Thank you. I'll be here all week. Tip your waitress. Try the canapes.

*snicker* Facilities put in hooks with flashlights hanging on them in all the bathrooms after last summer's bout with random power outages. Not that you can actually find it if you're in there when the power goes out, but it's the thought that counts, yes?
