What is with me this week? I seem to be unable to start a story without it turning into a 20,000 word opus! My sequel to The Visitor, tentatively titled The Temple, is already 13,700 words! And I've only been working on it since last Wednesday.

If this keeps up, I'm going to burn out my wrists again...

What precisely does it mean that my first thought upon reading this was, "Good Lord, man, how will you jerk off?"

Believe me, that's frequently a concern of mine as well!

It would be interesting to see what kind of response you get trying to file a claim for 'assistive services' for that particular 'temporary disability' with your health insurance company...

... and a single tear rolls down my cheek. I'd be lucky to get a thousand words written in a week.

Then again, I don't have your discipline. And I still have another six months that I can use the "I've got two kids under the age of three" excuse for not writing more. Gonna milk that for all I can.

I've found that having them at six and eight makes it very unlikely that I'll be able to do much more than write for whatever time I have on the bus along with the usual lunch break. And it is mostly a matter of discipline. I never thought I'd admit to having any.

Damn, and here I was hoping that older kids = kids entertain each other = more time to write (or play World of Warcraft, same thing).

Well, it is true that they do entertain each other. They also frustrate, annoy, provoke, argue, and conflict, and those interruptions are frequent, loud, and distracting. It also doesn't help that at six and eight, they're just now getting their social lives together, which eats an awful lot of the evening away.
