Razorantium and Adamantium

Following the advice of fallenpegasus and finding myself in Bellevue the other day, I stopped by the new Lush outlet and pick up some Razorantium. The stuff was pricey, $17.95 for an 8 oz. tub, but that's not the most insane price I've ever paid for a three-month shaving cream supply (that would be Zhir, at $38 if buying both the pre-shave oil and the shave soap).

I tried it out this evening and discovered that it is worth absolutely every penny. I put on a thin layer, waited only a minute, and then shaved with my Merkur single-blade razor. I was supposed to wait three. It didn't seem to matter. The blade moved smoothly through the hairs with only one pass. I had to be careful; Razorantium is thick and clogs up the razor very quickly, unlike Burma-Shave glycerin soaps.

There was no razor burn afterward. I was completely stunned. I always have razor burn, but not this time. My face was smooth and soothed and did not hurt. I think I'll be buying more of this stuff in the future.

In an unrelated issue, I stopped by Wonderworld Comics to pick up a Kimba the White Lion video for the girls to watch, and while I was there I thumbed through the Wolverine comic (now in its 33rd issue). When did that happen? Even more boggling, Sebastian Shaw (former leader of the Hellfire Club and lover of Emma Frost, part of the League of Mutants, a sublegal group dedicated to taking over the world) is now in charge of SHEILD (WTF!?!?) and Mystique works for him (WTF!?!?²).

Damn. Another universe has completely slipped me by.

One presumes you've got a proper brush?

I think if I were to ever go back to shaving, I'd want to do it old-fashioned like that... I mean, the old Remington was good for a decent shave in a pinch, but there's something about taking the time to do a proper hot-towel-aided wet shave that's... well... satisfying.

I think you/we have managed to sell the person in this house who *does* shave on the idea of doing it the old-fashioned way.... she may be getting a little something in her Christmas stocking. :)

You may have caught some of the 'House of M' arc Marvel's doing. The Scarlet Witch went nuts and warped the entire world. Peter Parker's a famous wrestling star as Spider-Man, Reed Richards and Sue Storm didn't survive the crash of Richards' space ship, etc, etc.

Hm. "Zhir" means "grease," as in greasy food, in Russian.

I'm suddenly recalling the scene in Pitch Black where Riddick is shaving, using a piece of machined steel as the blade, and bearing grease as the shaving creme.

Ha! Another convert!

One reason I like my disposable-head Mach3 razors is that they are "open" behind the blades, so I can make long smooth strokes, and the goo of the cream and the cut stubble just pile up along the back, out of the way, not jamming the razor.

My standard morning routine is such that I put the Razorantium on right before I brush my teeth. The couple of minutes the brushing takes is just the right amount of time for the hairs to soften up.

Thanks for the advice here and elsewhere.... the object of my gifting is really happy with the Merkur slant-bar and the shave goodies from Lush....
